DANIEL NIX

Pop/Rock

Song Notes

Song by Daniel Nix & Loderick Matthews

Musicians:
Guitar – Loderick Matthews
Bass/Vox – Daniel Nix
Percussion — George Esquivel
Drums – Earl Darling

The first song that Loderick and I wrote together before forming Shaken Not Stirred. The first song we ever cut in a studio. First song we ever had played on the radio. Funny note: Loderick and I love 6/8 as a time signature and the initial structure came together so quickly we called it “15 Minute Orgasm” until I wrote the lyrics.

Oscillating between religion and spirituality while questioning everything, but knowing it’s all too wondrous to be for nothing.

I have always loved stylized songs. This was my Spike Jones doing Charlie Mingus.

In June of 1989, I was in a very dark place. I wrote this as a poem (and it was typed on a typewriter). When I met Loderick, he added music and we had our second song together.

Second song we had on the radio. Second song about the demise of the environment. Both written in 1990 to 1991. I like to think I was ahead of the curve. 🙂

I grew up loving Kraftwerk, Art of Noise, Tangerine Dream and Brian Eno. I’ve always loved to craft Electronica songs for my own enjoyment.

This was my feeble attempt to emulate Pat Metheny. It was recorded for a client Christmas album (Spoiler alert:      Greensleeves and What Child is This are the same song.).

I had two dalmations named Simon & Stewart (after two of my favorite drummers: Stewart Copeland and Simon Phillips). I’d play guitar and Simon would dance – while Stewart would lay on the couch and wag him on.
